A Peek Into Our Branding Process
We often get the same question when a client is considering working with us in a branding or rebranding project. “Let’s say I sign on the dotted line, then what?” Our approach to branding (and frankly, all our projects) has been tested by us for many years to be a seamless as possible.
1) Discovery
We gather all the information you can give us, research the competitive landscape, and learn all we can about your product and industry.
2) Strategy
We collectively come up with a strategy. This essentially will tell us what the flag that we place in the sand should look (and sound like). The strategy will ensure that we are all on the same page about how we are positioning a brand to its target in a given marketplace.
3) Moodboarding
If we are focusing on a visual strategy, we will put pictures to words in mood boards that will make sure that we’re on the same page visually with the client. If we’re doing voice work, this is where we’ll discuss specific brand personality attributes to get on the same page about tone. This way, there are no surprises later.
4) Creative Development
This is the fun part. Here’s where we will go back into our design caves and flush out all our ideas for how to make your brand look and sound. Then, after sitting with our designs and editing them heavily, we will present the best concepts to you.
What does that look like?
This often depends on the needs and the scope of the project, but I would love to share an example with you of the first round of creative development for the Coral Labs branding project. This was a fairly straightforward project for a very young company going through Y Combinator, so we mainly focused on designing for their assumed target in an effort to stand out on Demo Day and look professional, as well as to grow with the company. We present the team with three separate options:
Option 1:
Option 2:
Option 3:
As you can see, we never simply design you a logo and send you on your way. What we’re doing is designing a brand system to help you understand the look and feel of your new brand as it related to your new brand strategy.
5) Refinement
We now work with the client to refine and address any feedback. We focus back on strategy and our creative brief as we address any concerns the client has. We’re also really good at helping the client formulate helpful feedback and moves this process along.
6) Launch
We don’t just dump a few PNGs into your inbox and wish you on your way. We create at least a small brand guide, equip you with all the assets you need, help you with your new social media accounts, and everything else down to your email signature. We’re also available to create any additional assets that you may need at any point in the future.
